a filter that exludes ALL CAPS messages as well, or make them smaller
a filter that exludes exact duplications of messages (well, this may cause problems with some groups looking for members that spams LFG)
as for moving wts, wtb, ...(etc) the culprits would only make slight alterations since they seem to desire to post it in the wrong place,
Here is a more radical suggestion: Since The general and trade channel is so cluttered at the moment that their function is almost nullified, how about removing them or severelly limit them.
Have a active filter (that may be turned off -im unsure about this) that only shows messages from friends in the friends list in the general channel (and trade) -people can still whisper or invite people into parties if they wish to talk to strangers of the public.
Perhaps the text bubble could still appear on top of the character, despite its not seen in the channel, making contact with strangers somewhat simpler. naturally a filter making this bubbles to dissapear should also exist.

errr..... Seems good on the surface, but dig a little deeper and you get:
some loser types: r u dion bons missn?
you see: are you doing the bonus mission?
Which has the side affect of leaving you unaware that said loser is an idiot who can't be bothered to type intelligently.
You click "enter mission", satisfied that each party member is a coherent individual. How wrong you would be...
Loser runs off, aggros mobs, shouts for healing in all caps, dies, spams REZZ ME LSRERS and I'm Dead! for five minutes before a) being ressurected and prompty repeating his performance or b) leaving.
No, can't say I want to be disillusioned on that front. Some jerkwad wants to type in all caps because "he likes them" or doesn't seem to realize his keyboard has vowel keys (maybe it was a model m and someone removed them?), I want to know, the better to not invite him.

Good idea as long as it's optional.
Personally I prefer knowing who the idiots are. If they cant be bothered to type actual words it should be loud and clear for everyone else to cringe at.

Fix, which I already posted above: the replaced words are on different color, maybe bit darker or brighter than the channel's normal color, and by hovering over the text would show the real typing. Alternatively, holding ctrl-shift or something similar would temporarily disable the filter.
And since the filter would be totally self-configurable, doubt one bothers to type every f*cked up version of the word, but only the most common ones.

Trade won't matter once the auction house system is implemented.

Already suggested a solution. I'll repost it for you
"While we're at it, any messsage with more than five mistakes that the spellcheck system corrects, doesn't get posted at all. I firmly believe in punishing the stupid. It's the only way they'll learn, if they can. They probably won't, but this would be the only way if they weren't quite as stupid.

hehehe
i agree with the chat thing, it would be nice for most people, but i love talking like this, i dknot know why. I am 21 years old and a graduate from college, but always typing nicely and with "proper" words and sentences upsets me. I play a game to have fun and not have to conform to everyones rules. so put it in for those who hate how i talk

Apathy is stupidity? I'm generally a proponent of "don't be lazy" (oh god how I hate 'u') but I don't see any reason to force everyone to spell absolutely everything correctly or else.
A filter is fine. But to impinge on people's wish to type how they want is a bit too overbearing.

Great idea.
Here are my suggestions.
"wwwwwwwwwaaasd"=>"I'm a dope and I don't know why I keep hitting the chat."
"WTS"=>"I've been here in LA for a half-hour already, can someone please give me more money than I deserve?"
"WTB"=>"I've been here in LA for a half-hour already, does someone have a godly mod I can buy for 786 gold, because that's all I have?
"STFU"=>"I have no mature way of expressing my displeasure."
"Mo/W LFG"=>"I'm a 55 build. Please send me an invite so I can show you how useless I can be in a mission."
"W/E LFG"=>"I had this idea for a build in my head all day in class and I want to try it out with the lives of 7 other party members."
"Mo/Me LFG"=>"Mo/Me LFG without whiners."
"Me/Mo LFG"=>"Me/Mo LFG ... pleeeeaase!"
"W/Mo LFG"=>"I got the game yesterday. Can someone pls help me with the mission?"
"R/W LFG"(at ToA)=>"I just want help to cap the spider then I'll split."
"noob"=>"I'm a noob."

I still say it should be self configurable, some preset filtering wouldn't just cut it

Actually, I made it all the way to Ascension with a W/Ele(Air). Then swapped out for monk for the increased survivability.
And you forgot a few.
"Lol/Rofl": "Hahaha"
"h8": "God I'm lazy, and don't deserve to use a computer."
"Leet," "Haxor," and "1337": I'm a pre-teen brat who has no idea how to type in true ascii, and have no right to attempt to type in "leet speak" until I actually know where it is from and what I'm doing. As I am probably not smart enough or patient enough to learn to type entirely in ten-key, my computer will now reformat itself. I'm sorry for being stupid and/or lazy.

Heh, That sounds about right.
Well I think this advanced filter or what not is a very good idea, however my filter works fine, but of course you can not read anything when chat is turned off. So this may actualy be a good idea, the only bad thing is you know some dude with way too much time on their hands are just going to find lamer ways of expressing themselves.
Some filters I would put in are
OMG I why does my team always suck? = Hmm, every team I am on seems to lose, I wonder if it could have anything to do with my character.
OMG NOOBS! = Whoops hit the caps lock sorry.

This is easily implementable if Arenanet made a txt file to put in your GW folder. Column 1 would be the original word seen in chat, and column 2 would be its replacement. Neverwinter Nights does this, and it is customizable by even the most computer-illeterate people.
Thyen again, they could also put it under advanced game options.
